First of all, you should lay down some couch roll on the work station to keep it clean and hygienic. To prepare the model, you should put a towel/wrap around the models shoulders and clip their hair back out of their face, checking that they are comfortable. It is then vital to wash your hands (and make sure that the client is aware of this).
Cleansing:
- Put some cleanser on a few individual cotton pads (for males, use tissue)
- Take one pad in each hand, and use upward strokes to remove any make-up/dirt, starting from the chin and moving up the face towards the hair line
- Ensure that the client keeps their eyes closed and gently rub over the eyes to remove any eye make-up
- Place a small amount of cleanser on the back of your hand and ask your client to look upwards. Use baby buds to remove any make-up from more delicate areas e.g. directly under the eyes
- If the make-up is stubborn, ask your client/model to do it themselves
- Throw away any dirty cotton wool pads/buds
- Repeat the same steps as above with toner
- Squirt a pea size amount of moisturiser on your hand and rub between your fingers
- Massage this into your clients face using upward strokes
- This should be fairly gentle, relaxing and enjoyable for the client

Before and after cleansing, toning and moisturising |
For a first attempt, I think it was fairly successful. As you can see, the majority of the make-up was removed (including even waterproof make-up) and the client said it was an enjoyable experience.
However, as you look extremely closely, and use a baby bud to double check, you can see there is still a very small amount of makeup under the eyes/in the waterline This proves that I need to be more thorough or possibly slightly harsher in order to ensure all of the make-up is removed successfully.
